Get Thee to the Polls! And Entertain Thyself, Once Thou hast Gotten!

Happy Election Day!  We are staying in today, now that I've taken care of the errands.  A political demonstration in the next big town over went sideways last night, and I'm not in the mood for that kind of confrontation right now.  The county-wide community board on Facebook did not help, as the moderators are very strongly biased in a direction I don't agree with, allowing increasing bullying and implied threats of violence.  I've only been staying because this group also happens to have the best information in emergency situations, but it's been wearing down my faith in humanity.  Suffice it to say, I fully understand now why I live in the most affordable part of the Bay Area.

I was intending to write about musicals set in the world of politics this week, but I just don't have it in me.  Visit https://www.playbill.com/article/an-election-day-look-at-american-politics-on-stage-com-93051 if you want some ideas of something good to think about.  There are a lot of easy ways to get your new cast recording fix without leaving your home today, like Hoopla through your library (borrows last 1-2 weeks), the Amazon music app (the Unlimited option costs extra per month, but has a mountain of recordings), Apple iTunes, and YouTube.  If nothing else, watch Hamilton on Disney+ or What the Constitution Means to Me on Amazon Prime.

Today, I'm having a lot of memories of the productions of 1776 I have worked with in the past few years.  The people who created our country and our government were human and fallible.  As is true in every group creating something, everyone had their own reasons for insisting on various parts of the Declaration of Independence, and compromises had to be made in order to make it happen.  Not every compromise was a good idea.  We were in civil war less than 90 years later because of those compromises, after all.  It's not a perfect document.  Neither is the Constitution, which was created by people of that time with their own agendas.  What makes the documents of our nation work is the interpretation of those documents for the entirety of the nation, rather than the few.

As for me and my house, we will hope for the best and pray for strength if the worst should occur.  A lot of people I love very much have a lot to lose in this election.  I assure you that this is not a "We just don't like him!" kind of year.  May cooler heads prevail.

In other news, is there anything more confident than a toddler strutting around in new footie jammies?  Tiny is feeling extremely good looking right now.
